Many thanks for putting this website (and the new one) together. Amazing to see all the promotional materials and press clippings, so this is a real treasure chest.

I only actually discovered One Summer last year, but better late than never! Now in the process of rewatching it.

Although I grew up in Birkenhead, near Liverpool,I didn\'t see this show until I bought the DVD when it was released.I knew Spencer\'s work with Jarman.
This series is so beautifully made, memorable and emotional to watch. The ending was a bit grim and I long for there to have been a sequel.
Great website,thanks!

first saw this aged 12 with friends while skiving pe at school! Very emotional drama, beautifully scripted, well written and perfectly performed. Years later bought the dvd as an adult. Yesterday played it to my 16 year old daughter who appears to have become as engrossed in it as I did as a kid! Surviving the test of time, part of my growing up and now my daughters too.

32 years on, I will be watching the series over the coming weeks just as I did on Channel 4 all those years ago! Even though One Summer was drama that dealt with difficult social issues, as well as prejudice and the possibility of betrayal by knowing each others secrets, there was nevertheless a theme of unspoken loyalty and comradeship between the characters, even if that meant personal sacrifice in order to protect others from harm. A brilliantly written and acted series!

Favourite character:

Wally the shopkeep

Comments:

This series sticks in my head as it made an impression even at a young age. This along with Kizzy and Auf Wiedersehen Pet was an important and even cherished part of my childhood and pre-adolescence. terrific acting, a strong gritty story backed by a tenderness not often matched. Truly recommended viewing.

Most memorable moment from the series:

The ending really got me, seeing Billy being driven away in the Police car and hearing the theme music.

Favourite character:

Every character in the series was brilliant and deliberately flawed in some way...

Comments:

31 years ago! Timeless characters, great drama, the innocence of youth, the clash of opposing lifestyles.
