We are looking to hunt UP in October. We are pursuing Partridge, Woodcock and Sharp tails. We are bring bird dogs in hopes of bettering our chances. I have never been in this part of the country, but myself and a friend are trying to fulfill a life long dream. We have reservations in Crystal River and don\'t mind traveling if we have to. I would appreciate any and all advice where to find hunting opportunities. I look forward to hearing from ya\'ll. |

It has been many years since the \"Youth Deer Hunt\" was started. I would like to see a report from the DNR on what the recruitment of adult hunters is from youths that have hunted in the \"Youth Deer Hunt\"! Is this program actually doing what it was started to do or is it now just another Deer Season? |

A special thanks to everyone who took part in the Citizens for professional wildlife management petition drive. We submitted over 374,000 signatures. This was a statewide effort. It is now in the hands of our legislature to act on our proposal. |

The Northern U.P. deer heard population is way down and this winter isn\'t going to help. The ONLY logical way to promote a speedy population recovery is to limit or ban doe harvests in the northern counties or the complete U.P. until population numbers are normalized. I really think all of the sportsman clubs should rally together and petition the state to protect the does until the population has recovered or we will be doomed with a slow 10 year recovery at best or no recovery at all. The DNR has proven that doe harvests are the key element in reducing high populations and slowing rate of growth so now it\'s time to do the exact opposite for to promote the population recovery. Common sense decisions folks, if the state would focus on RESPONSIBLE deer management instead of license sales and covering up for poor hunting success rates we\'d have one of the whitetail capitals of the country. |

U.P. Trappers need your help!!! First of all I would like to thank those UPSA clubs that are providing us with volunteers for the 2014 National Trappers Association Convention and Outdoor Expo: Great Lakes Sports & Recreation Club, Bay de Noc Gobblers, and the Normenco Sportsman’s Club. If I have missed a club that agreed to provide workers, please let me know! The U.P. Trappers Association has about 400 members in the Upper Peninsula and we would like to have 400 workers for the NTA Convention! We can’t expect every UPTA member to be able to work and we don’t want anyone to have to work the entire four days. We have just over 100 that have signed up to work, so we still need about 300 volunteers. If each of the 40+ UPSA clubs can provide a few bodies, we will be much closer to our goal. We need people to set up about 500 tables in the ten dealer buildings at the fairgrounds. We need to mark out nearly 300, 20’ X 30’ foot spots, for the outside vendors. We have to man two gates 24/7 and we need to man a third gate during the day. We need people to park cars, help dealers find their spots and unload their supplies, to sweep up the dealer buildings and empty the trash at the end of each day, we need workers to keep the bathrooms clean and stocked during the entire convention, and we need to leave the fairgrounds as clean or cleaner than we found it. And these are just some of the things we need workers for!!!! As you can see we can use all the help we can get. And we fully expect those who help us out to contact us when they host an event that takes more bodies than they can provide! I want to thank each club in advance for providing us with workers. Please send me an email or give me a call with a list of your members that are willing to help out. Phone numbers or email addresses would be appreciated so we can contact these people before the convention and chat with them about what days and hours they can work and about the job(s) they would prefer. Thanks again, Bob Steinmetz, NTA Director U.P. Trappers Association 4984 Karen 17.25 Street Escanaba, MI 49829 (906) 786-6265 bobsteinmetz@charter.net |

Hi, for those who don\'t know me, I\'m the district 17, or u.p. regional director for the michigan trapper & predator callers association. For months now m.t.p.c.a. has been protesting the rally\'s of the k.m.w.p. animal rights group across michigan. It has also been brought to my attention, that a lime stone mining group is taking core samples and intent on the purchase, and destruction of 5,000 acers of u.p. state forest near lake superior. |
