What Do You Kno About Waves What Makes Them And What Causes Rocks 2 Move From The Beach?

Re: Waves

Okay, a bit vague but here we go...

------------------------------------------------------

A wave is a movement of a body of water created by the transfer of energy from wind blown over its surface. The amount of energy acquired depends on three factors:

> The winds velocity.
> The length of time the wind blows over the body of water.
> The length of the fetch* in which the body travels.

* Fetch is the maximum distance of open water that the wind can blow.

------------------------------------------------------

Material (rocks, shells, plastic bottles, etc.) can be ‘removed from a beach’ by marine processes (e.g. backwash**), atmospheric processes (e.g. saltation***) and by human interaction.

** Backwash is the backward flow of water after it has been pushed up the beach as swash. The strength of the backwash, and therefore the amount of material removed, depends on the energy of the waves impacting the beach.

*** Saltation is the 'leaping' or bouncing of particles as they are transported and then deposited.

------------------------------------------------------

There we go. Hope I'm right and hope it helps!
