1st Battalion Buffs - Corinth,Greece 1941

My Grandfather, Charles A.R. Tucker, served with the Buffs (East Surrey Regiment in 1950,Queens Royal Regiment 1951-52) from 1929 - 1952, serving in Burma, India, Palestine, Egypt, and after the war in Germany (B.A.o.R).

In January 1941 he was in Egypt, managing to meet his brother, William in Alexandria only a couple of days before William was killed onboard HMS Gallant.

On the 28th April 1941, Charles was captured and became a prisoner of war.

The question I have, is why was he in Corinth, Greece, when I can find no records to suggest the Buffs were there.

His MI-9 form, completed when his prisoner of war camp, Stalag 18a in Austria, was liberated, says place of capture was Greece. I've obtained records from the International Red Cross, which state the place of capture was Corinth.

Ministry of War records, for when he was missing, then later noted as a POW, both state the theatre was Greece, and he is listed as in the Buffs , not assigned to another regiment.

Many Thanks
Mark
