Mark Murphy Crowned Open Singles National Champion for first time as Aisling Hickey wins 8th in a row Kilkenny`s Mark Murphy won his first Mens Open Singles All Ireland Title at the 2018 All Ireland Singles & Doubles Championships played in Tralee and Aisling Hickey(Rossmore) won her 8th National Singles title in a row Having been runner-up on four occasions Murphy finally overcame the Noel O`Callaghan (Fermoy), the same player who defeated hiim in all those four finals. The Kilkenny athlete beat O'Callaghan this time round by 2 games to nil in the final. Aisling Hickey(Rossmore) contuinued her dominance in women's racquetball defeating Donna Ryder(Newport) by 2 games to nil to win her 8th title in a row. Other singles winners were Joe Devenney(Ballinrobe) Men's B Singles, Mike Haverty(Castlebar) Men's C Singles, Michael Barrett(Mitchelstown) Mens D Singles, Rosie Downey(Moycullen) Women's D Singles, Sabieta Lynch( Brideswell) Women's Novice Singles and Daniel Hanrahan(Galmoy), the youngest ever winner of the Mens Novice Singles. Arklow Open back on Track
At the 33rd Arklow Open, Kilkenny's Mark Murphy added the Arklow Open Singles title to his Tralee title he won back in January. Selected at number 1 on the Irish team for the World Championships in August, Murphy defeated Noel O'Callaghan (Fermoy) by 2 games to 1. Aisling Hickey(Rossomre) continued her dominance of women's racquetball by winning the Womens Open Singles with a 2-0 victory over Majella Haverty(Castlebar). Murphy made it a double when he teamed up with Stevie Quinn(Rossmore) to win the Open Doubles while Castlebar's Katie Kenny & Majella Haverty won the Womens Open Doubles. A very successful tournament for the Arklow Club after the disapointment of cancelling last years tournament. Well done to all.

Successful Galway Open
A very successful Galway Open was held in Moycullen, Co Galway on the weekend of 12th & 13th May. Forty eight athletes competed at which Noel O`Callaghan (Fermoy) and Rossmore`s Aisling Hickey ended the season as Irish number 1's for the 2017/18 season after winning at the Open Singles titles. O`Callaghan defeated National Champion Mark Murphy(Kilkenny) by 2 games to nil in the final match while Hickey defeated Majella Haverty(Castlebar) also by 2 games to nil in the Women's Open Singles final. Our thanks to Moycullen Racquetball Club for hosting the Galway Open.

O'Callaghan & Hickey Top players for 2017/18 Season
Noel O`Callaghan (Fermoy) and Rossmore`s Aisling Hickey ended the season as Irish number 1's for the 2017/18 season after winning at the Galway Open. Both players were presented with end of season awards sponsored by Mayo Crystal. O'Callaghan was the winner of 4 Opens during the season and was in the runner up spot on 3 occasions. Hickey had a total of 8 tournament wins during the season. Coaching News Racquetball Ireland will support clubs who want to run a coaching clinics for adults and juniors at their club. Funds will be made available to clubs on application to the RAI. All courses must be undertaken by a qualified coach i.e a person who has done the RAI Foundation course. Please apply by emailing email@example.com If your club does not have a qualified coach then the RAI will supply a coach for the session. For Clubs wishing to undertake the Foundation Level Course please apply to the same email address
The Foundation Level Coaching course was held recently in Ballyvourney with five people from Naomh Aban Racquetball Club who undertook the course being presented with their coaching certs. Aisling Hickey was the RAI tutor who delivered the course.
