The 3 sec/problem rate is the goal. If your son is not at that speed, keep moving forward in the lessons, but you will want to spend extra time playing some Math Card Games that will help speed up his facts, but in an non-stressful way! :-)

I had a son that took quite some time before he was able to get to the target speed. We just continued to play lots of card games.

Thanks, Rachel. I know he can do certain strategies at the goal rate, but if I try to time him on the others, he gets all stressed out and can't think. We do (and have done all along) games daily, so I know he's getting plenty of non-stressful practice too. (The games are a WONDERFUL way to practice!) We'll continue w/ the games and move on in the lessons. Thank-you for the encouragement!
