level D transition muliplication lessons

I have just been doing lesson 42 from the transition lessons with my 10 year old boys. They understand the concepts no problem, but we haven't yet master our multiplication facts. Normally we have scheduled two parts to math. 30 mins for the lesson, and 30 mins of game time (i teach their siblings level B while they play games and vice versa). My question is, do we stay practicing the envelope games for 4s 8s and the multiplication games until they master them, or do we move on to 3s and 6s knowing that they will continue to practice through games? So far i have always moved on knowing that they would practice and eventually master them, but I wasn't sure with this one.

Thanks

Re: level D transition muliplication lessons

Hi, Alicia!

When my kids struggled on a particular multiple or two, I spent time on those particular multiples until they got it - or until they were fairly fluent with them. If I moved on too soon, they would forget which was which. By me spending extra time on the multiples that they struggled with, they were able to solidify them and not get too frustrated.

Of course, each family is different. You may want to stay on a multiple for a few days (or until they got bored with them) and then move on. One of the games I played with my kids (over and over) was P10 - Multiplication Memory. My kids really liked the game and it helped them work on one multiple at a time.

Good luck!
Rachel
