New to RS have questions

Hi

I have a daughter who will be 11 in September. Up until now, she has always done a workbook math program. She adds and subtracts with no problems, but she still does not have her multiplication facts memorized. We have done a little division, but not much, and basic fractions.

Based on taking that test on the website, looks like we would start in Level D.

We have never used an Abacus, and I know I never have. I am also not "mathy". I have never been able to understand abstract math concepts, so I fear doing this with my daughter. I want her to be able to understand the "why's" of math. But I also want to make sure that this program would not be difficult for me to learn and teach. Do you think I can teach this to her?

What is the average age for a level D user? And Am I to assume that by the time you hit Grade 8, you should be ready for pre-algebra?

So, would buying the $175.00 package be all I need? Is there anything else I would need to buy?

This would be a big investment for us, so I wamt to make sure this is what we would need. And I hope this can help my daughter understand the why's and how's of Math. And, in hope that higher math's will not be as scary.

Thank you
Cindy

Re: New to RS have questions

Cindy,

Thank you so much for your message! Sounds like your daughter is ready to get a RightStart in math! :) And we are here to help her on her way!!!

My first question would be what level the website said to do according to her abilities, so you are one step ahead of me! Level D is a great level and the kit comes with the transition lessons, helping your daughter to be successful with how our program works!

You will be great with teaching our program and using the AL Abacus! When you start out using the transition lessons, the beginning ones are a bit of review, therefore you and your daughter will catch on quickly!

If you have questions while teaching feel free to call our customer service line (888-272-3291) which is staffed by parents who use our program daily! They are a wealth of knowledge!!! In addition utilize our website and our yahoo group to bounce off any questions!

The $175.00 package is all you need to buy for this year, the kit comes with EVERYTHING you need for a successful year! Next year you just need to do the d to e add on kit!

Also with some of the facts she may need extra work on, feel free to play as many card games as possible! The lessons do tell you when to play them, but take them out when ever! Playing a game is always fun!

You sound like you are well on your way! If you have more questions, just let us know.

Cassie :)
