Don't see point of B worksheet 10-2

I'm starting a child in B, and now I can't see why worksheet 10-2 is of any use. We're supposed to be learning the commutative law of addition, and the worksheet is supposed to be applying the commutative law. But it's just basically a page full of equations. How is she supposed to use the commutative law here? At first I thought maybe it was things like the song backwards, so instead of 5 + 2 (as in Why's the sky so blue, 7 is 5 and 2) the worksheet would have 2 + 5 and she would need to think that 2 + 5 was the same as 5 + 2. But, there are problems like 4+ 2 on the sheet. How is she supposed to use the commutative property? It just looks like a page of equations. Drawing a blank on this one!!

Thanks!
Deanna

Re: Don't see point of B worksheet 10-2

Hello Deanna,

Worksheet 10-2 is giving the child more time to use the communitve law.

In another post to this same question Dr. Cotter replied,

"Worksheet 10-2 asks the child to find the sums by applying (underline added) the commutative law. For example, in 1 5, it is much easier to think of 5 1 than 1 5. That's using the commutative law.

Hope that helps with why that worksheet is there.

Thank you for giving your child a RightStart in Math,
