Geometry Worksheet & Solution Page 159

Geometry Worksheet 159:

Problem 1 says:
"Circumscribe the truncated octahedron in an octahedron."

My son tried to do this, but he said he knew something wasn't right with his drawing. He just didn't know what. Since I was having trouble discerning how his drawing was different from the solution drawing, I had him look at the answer to see if he could figure it out. At first he thought he saw what he missed. But after studying it, he said he thinks the solution is incorrect.

He says you put the pyramids on top of the hexagons. He thinks the pyramids should be shown on top of the squares, like the drawing of the octahedron in the lesson.

Is he correct?

Thanks,
Julia

Re: Geometry Worksheet & Solution Page 159

Dear Julia,
Joan will get back to you on the specifics, she is away on business right now. As far as letting your son see the solutions, that is exactly what she had in mind for this level of learning. He needs to try to figure out where he made his mistake and try to correct it himself. Perhaps it is wrong, but then he should justify his thinking sequentially and send an email to Joan directly. She asks for that kind of input and proving his work step by step will be very helpful for him in higher level math.
