Re: teaching 4-digit addition

Hello Vivien,

Level B will teach the 4-digit addition problem.

It first lays a great foundation on place value.

The child by this point in the program can add double digits mentally.

Then as they are introduced to the concept of 4-digit adding, they are taught how to do it using the base-ten picture cards, then using side two of the abacus, then they learn how to do it with the abacus and on paper together, then just the paper.

It is a smooth transition, and all of my three children were capable 4digit adders by age 6 1/2.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. You can email me directly at Carissa@alabacus.com .

Thank you for giving your child a RightStart in Math,

Carissa
