My son is attempting to make a family tree. My mother and father divorced when I was a baby. My dad's name was James Franklin Lilly, from the Beckley area of West Virginia and born around 1939. He was in the Army, stationed at Ft Jackson SC in 1960.

His dad may have been Lewis (Louis?) Lilly. Any info appreciated. flilly@coastalnow.net

request. Your information does not go back quite far
enough to hook into my research files but if you can
provide your mother's full maiden name I may be able
to help you and your son. On the WV Culture and Heritage site I found 4 likely marriages for men
named Lewis Lilly. It could be any of them or none
of them. Anyway, if we can find their marriage we
may be able to work back farther and hook into my

My mother's maiden name was Sharp and she was from Southwestern Virginia. I have traced her lineage back to 1800.

However, my knowledge of the Lilly family is almost nil. Based on my father's age, I'd assume Lewis Lilly married his wife around 1914-1920.

The state has not posted their marriage record yet.
Your mother was previously married or used another surname.
