I am researching my family tree after a few recent deaths in the family.
I have discovered that my 2nd great-uncle, Corporal William Hugh Penhale, was in the 1oth Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment.
I have next to no knowledge of the workings of military service, and to be honest I'm a little overwhelmed and confused about where to start!
So far I have found out that he was killed in action on 31.07.1917, aged 21, and that his body was never found/recovered as he is listed on the Menin Gate monument in Ypres.
I would really appreciate any pointers on where I can find any information about his service, to try and understand a little more of what he went through.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this,
