What will happen with the fighters from the Modern Sports & Events-stable?

Re: MSE Fighters
It is my guess that many of them will fight very, very seldom, and some will even never fight again. A few might be used as "stepping-stones" for other, but better, up-and-comers, but very few might be succesfull elsewhere. To me the future looks not so good for most of them. But I hope they will all the succesful.
So far guys such as Isam Khalil, Geir Inge Jørgensen, Thomas Hansvoll and Reidar Walstad have not exactly cried over the fact that Steffen Tangstad will no longer be in their lives, so maybe they are actually happy about the turn of events.
I just think they would have prefered someone taking over where Tangstad left off. I dont think it would have been that hard to do better than Tangstad. His shows really stunk most of the time.

Re: MSE Fighters
From having a promotional deal backed up by a TV-company the MSE-boxers are practically unemployed. They cannot be happy. Hansvoll said to VG that he is worried. Jørgensen said he would freelance, but hey! that probably means fighting from the loosers corner. Reidar Walstad, let's hope he gets picked up by Palle, otherwise I guess he'll fight his next bouts in Finland together with Daniel Peretiatko and Kim-Jonny jensen under his father's guiding eyes. But the front man, Thomas Adamek, where is he going? And Aldo, can he reach a deal with Universum? (By the way, I liked the shows Tangstad put up in Aaland, nice journey, always some interesting fights).

Re: MSE Fighters
No i think u r right. they cant be happy that they have no employer, but maybe it will work out for the better for some of them? for some, it most likely will not.
I have to agree with Duran that most of Tangstad´s shows really sucked, and besides Roberto´s fights, I didnt see any that even resembled interesting. Maybe Colliander vs. Grønfors, but that turned out one-sided too.
Adamek? Who cares? he is POLISH! HE can go to Universum much easier than a guy like Colliander, because Germans are more interested in Eastern Europeans than Swedes. I cant really see why they would want to invest in him, because, although good, he is not THAT special.
If Walstad joins Jensen and that other guy in Finland, it will merely be to get fights. I have my doubt they can pay him what he is used to with MS&E, because from what I know they have no TV backing.
To the MSE-boxers it was good money and a chance to build a reputation (and yes - too slowly I agree). Now they probably will have to fight for almost no money in Finland (and win) or for a tiny amount of money down at the continent (and loose).
And some of us will miss the prefight drinking at Park and the postfight drinkin in Arkipelag and the victorious Adamek (who cares about him being polish?) on the ferry back to Kapellskär.
Why all this "stinking and sucking"? Aren't you sorry at all? Was it just bad television?

Re: MSE Fighters
Dear Otto.
Yes, I am sorry for the boxers. Not for Tangstad, because he blew his chance to make an impact on the Scandinavian boxing scene. He had the TV backing, but still mathced his boxers like he was on welfare.
I AM sorry for the boxers, but maybe now it is time for them to show what they are really made of. If they are good enough, and have the will-power, dont you think they will succeed anyway? For those who are not good enough, and are not willing to take the hard road to glory, do they deserve it in the first place anyway?
It is very unfortunate that MS&E have gone down the drain, but that is simply because Tangstad didnt deliver a product that was good enough compared to the money MTG paid him. Dont you think they would have continued if they had been filled with joy and happiness about his work?
Its just too bad that it affects all these boxers, and you are absolutely right in your assesment about the possibilities of their future. small or no money in Finland, or being in the loosers corner somewhere else. But isnt that the conditions that so many other boxers arround the world work under? If they can deal with it, and some of them deal with it very nicely and work their way up the ladder, why cant the Scandinavians?
Maybe its time for some of them to find out what being a professional boxer really means? Its not all about getting paid well to fight half-dead Hugarians on a small island between Finland and Sweden (or where it is).
You will miss the pre and post fight drinking, and im sure Steffen Tangstad will too, but I will miss the activity of the Scandinavian boxing scene. I wont miss seeing Henning Steen vs. Csaba Olah 1 and 2, and I wont miss Tangstad. Boxing is what I will miss! Lets hope things work out for the best.
Now I hear a touch of sadness in your voice, and that I think is appropriate. And you must be right about the MTG, if they were happy with the product they wouldn't have dropped it.
Tangstad, when criticised for matching Jørgensen poorly, said it's better to be safe than sorry. Well, I think it's safe to say that Tangstad is sorry now.
Professional boxing is also about being able to watch it, and then this little island often is as close you can get when you live in Norway or Sweden. And if you want to see scandinavians, I guess someone have to pay them above the social security minimum wages (and one thing I just don't wont to think about is this Hansvoll, who just didn't want to box anyway, and that maybe was the final blow for Tangstads business).
I don't think anyone is too sorry for Tangstad, but lets hope we won't see him as a stand up comedian introducing go-go girls ...
Cheers for the future, and for traveling to Denmark.

Re: MSE Fighters
It's the movie Raging Bull, with Jake la Motta ending up in that fashion. My point was it's best for boxing-scandinavia that the former champion and promoter Steffen Tangstad continue in the boxing-business some way or the other. Maybe I should have explained that one, or left it out. Hm. It's a good movie though.

Re: MSE Fighters
Hello Inge
I have been under the impression that boxers in Finland are semi-professionals, not earning enough money to be full-time boxers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
And we were discussing the fate of norwegian and swedish boxers, and since the finnish promotors don't have a tv-contract (again, correct me if I'm wrong) boxing in Finland can hardly be as lucrative as the MSE was. The pro-boxers make money from the fights and from their personal sponsors, and without tv it's harder to get good sponsor money.
If you know the situation in Finland, come on and inform us. In Norway its hard for a professional boxer to get sponsors, because with the ban most businesses do not want to get connected with it, but this may be different in Finland (but then again, only for finnish boxers wich we have not really discussed in this forum).

Re: MSE Fighters
Only VERY few Danish boxers are full time professionals, and dont need a job on the side. Thats not only in Finland, and I am willing to bet my three-room apartment that there are NO full-time professionals in Finland at all. Maybe they call themselves that, but there is no way they can earn a normal living from boxing without the promoters having TV contracts, and them only boxing 3 or 4 times a year. Impossible Inge.
Hello again,
I have understand that this is an all-scadinavian boxing site...?? Or do you think that you have readers only from den.swe.nor?
Ok, you mentioned TV. What about that? Offcourse it give's more money for promoters and it help's a lot. But it don't mean that the guality of events will automaticly go hand in hand with the money. I saw the last MS&E event in Åland and it was terrible. If boxers are matched like that, they will ever go nowhere. I think that TV spectators would like to see a real fight's with two equal kind of boxers. The boxing will die for sure if there is too much titles and boxers are protected by TV-promoters. Look what happened with Hansvoll. I think he was quite long leaning on steffen. Is it ok now ? No fight's, nothing... end of careers. Why didn't he boxed with a little smaller purses?? Money end's sometimes, when boxers are used to have high purses all the time. Maby it's not so bad here in finland like you are saying. We are not wyning all the time about the money. Maby it's good to have "normal" situation with boxing. Finnish boxer are wery well notivated as what I have heard. Maby Steffen is out of business bacause of Hansvoll??
If you think that everything in denmark is ok, that's fine, but aren't you pored all time winning? It's part of the game when you sometimes lose the fight. It not the end of the world you know !? Leonard did lose big time! But he put all in the line after that and came out bigger than ever.

Re: MSE Fighters
Hello my Scandinavian friends,
i´m a boxing fan from Germany and try to follow the Scandinavian scene a bit. Especially i´m interested
in heavyweight Aldo Colliander. Are there any news about him ? Where is he gone, now that MSE has left ?
Many thanx for any info.
