Ride of Silence - Wednesday, May 20, 7:00 p.m.

Ride of Silence 2020 – Ride of Silence

Here is how the Ride of Silence is going to work this year.

• Plan to ride Wednesday May 20 at 7:00 p.m. solo, or safely with members of your quarantine pod. (in case of rain or if you’re not comfortable riding in the evening – the make-up date/time is Saturday, May 23, at 10 am)
• Choose an 8 – 10 mile route – or ride your trainer. (If you need help with a safe route – let me know and I’ll put one together for you).
• Ride in silence – remembering and honoring those who’ve been hit and killed or seriously injured while riding.
• Ride slowly – this is not a race.
• Wear one of your Murfreesboro Bike Club jerseys if you’ve got one.
• Wear your helmet if riding outside.
• Take a selfie and use the hashtag #rideofsilence2020 and post on social media or send to me via email sarahl@mborobike.com or text 615-202-3072.
• If you want – post your photo directly to the Ride of Silence Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/rideofsilence/.

THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL NOT BE QUIET
On May 20, 2020 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.

In 2003,Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.

The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees.

The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.

The necessary expenses the Ride of Silence has to incur are met by supportive volunteers and donations.

Re: Ride of Silence - Wednesday, May 20, 7:00 p.m. - Try again Saturday at 10:00

It was pouring rain at my house at 7:00 pm last night - so I didn't get my Ride of Silence in - I will try again Saturday morning at 10:00. Did anyone else get their ride in?
