Bike and Ped Counters Needed

Volunteers Needed: Counting Bicyclists and Pedestrians
As part of the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Study, the MPO will be conducting bicycle and pedestrian counts on September 8 (rain date Sept. 10). These dates correspond with a national bicycle and pedestrian count effort being coordinated by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Council of ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers). This effort has been ongoing since 2004 and data has been collected by over 90 communities across the U.S.

The main focus will be areas with established bicycle and pedestrian traffic, but areas will be included that are transitioning into multi-modal transportation with or without infrastructure such as sidewalks and bikeways. The objective is to conduct counts at the same locations on a regular basis so information is gathered on the trends of walking and bicycling in the region.

The counts are being conducted with volunteers. Rutherford County has space for 6 volunteers (3 for the 7am-9am shift and 3 for the 4pm-6pm shift). Volunteers are encouraged to take both shifts at a location if possible. To volunteer, please email meehan@nashvillempo.org. Volunteers will receive training on how to conduct the counts.
