Bicycle Ban Update

Mark Bartleson attended the House-Transportation-Rural Roads Committee meeting today, and I attempted to watch it online. This is our combined observation - apparently we got enough pressure on that the bill was "removed". Now what that means, no one is sure - removed from the agenda? removed from consideration? We're not sure...however the bill sponsor Rep Moore did not show up for the committee meeting. There were lots of "camera's" there in the beginning, and Mark suspects the bill has just been postponed to a time when the cycling community has died down their protests. You can see the video of the meeting here: http://wapp.legislature.state.tn.us/apps/videowrapper/default.aspx?CommID=44

Please, if you have already contact Rep Moore with your concerns, do so now. We need to make sure this bill gets killed. rep.gary.moore@capitol.tn.gov is his email address.

I did get a reply from Phillip Johnson, the chair of the committee stating that he opposed the bill as well, and suggested that we contact Rep Moore.

Keep up the good work!!

Thank you!!
Sarah

Re: Bicycle Ban Update - Update!

email I just received from Rep. Johnson.

"Taken off notice" typically means he is done with it for now. However, he can, at any time, put it back on notice for a hearing in committee. Either way I do not think he stands a chance of passing this bill.

WOOHOO!!

Re: Re: Bicycle Ban Update - Update!

After sitting through the Roberts Rules of Order in the subcommittee meeting, I'm compelled to second that Woohoo! All in favor, say aye!

With that said -- stay vigilant. If it comes up again, we'll need more cyclists to show up. The TV cameras seemed to have an impact this time, but who knows if the TV crews will show up next time.
