The veteran umpires in this league, guys like O'Connell, Schaly, Lopina, Dunahue, have been around a long time and have much more experience than the players. This year, though, I seem to have noticed many more unfamiliar names calling games. I don't know how much experience the new umps have, but it does seem logical that, like players, this would be a developmental league for umpires too.
