Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

I will be going to Woodbury for my first rest stop, its only seven more miles. I agree with Sarah regarding the store in Readyville, I will not (and never intend to) spend one dime in that store!!

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

The store also has a "No Public Restroom" sign. What they may not know is that there is a perfectly good public restroom behind the store. Actually, it looks just like the back wall of the store. Actually, it is the back wall of the store. So don't let the angry store clerk deter you from shopping there. Don't be upset when he tells you to get your bike away from his store. Keep your helmet and bike shoes on and go right inside to buy your water and fig newtons and then leave a message of thanks on the back wall.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Uh guys?....... Remind me to never get you ticked off at me if I have a store! (VBG!)

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Are there GPS files available for this ride (66 and 100 mile routes in particular)? Thanks.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Mark Bartleson may have done the GPS routes but that is probably your only chance. We will have analog cue sheets at the school and the route is marked.

GPS Route for Century

Here's the GPS route for Bryan and anyone else that would like it. Once you are on the web page, click the route button, then save it as a GPX, .crs or .tcx file, then drag/drop it to your GPS folder on your computer.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Thanks for the ride Bill, Bryan, and Mike. Sorry, my GPS didn't work right after lunch, so it had me take a left on Pleasant Ridge rather than a right. I knew I was off course, but couldn't get it reset to get back on course. By the time I did get back to the course, it would have been 120+ miles to finish the century route, so I headed back via the 33 route. Still don't know how many I ended up with, since my computer stopped tracking mileage when I was off course. Probably somewhere around 90. Hope you guys made it back safely.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Great riding with you guys again, had an outstanding time. Sorry about your GPS Mark (I swear I changed nothing on it), Bill and I were off course pretty much right after lunch as well. We were following the markers (great job on those btw) from that point on.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

Sorry, I did not do the whole 100 mile route.
When I got to the top of Petty Gap road, and
felt the wind on top of the ridge and saw no
other riders in front or behind me, I knew
I was going to lose the single speed/man verses
wind battle. I turned around and went back to
Woodbury and did the Hot 80.
I will attempt it again next weekend!

Coulda looked at the ground

I realize that it's old skool but ...the route was marked.

Re: Coulda looked at the ground

Tried that as best I could, but once I missed it, there weren't any markers to tell me that I missed it! Just needed a cue sheet, but they were running low today. I found some very exciting roads-- must have been 20%+ grade, and thankfully, it was downhill. Wouldn't recommend it though, since it was a very rough road. Hope you had a good ride.

Volunteer Driven...

Mark - I am so sorry for the cue sheet shortage - we had 50 people show up and I just didn't plan very well.

Many thanks to Bob Barkley for designing such a beautiful route!

Thanks to Steve Lovett, Bill Stephens, Dave Becker, Bob Barkley, Don Holder and Dave McLaughlin who spent many hours and drove many miles marking the route this past week.

We have identified some areas that could be marked more clearly - and we also found some marks that had been tampered with before 2:00 yesterday. We will get those fixed before Saturday.

Thanks to all who came out and gave feed back - it's nice that the volunteers who work so hard next weekend got a chance to enjoy the route. I counted 18 volunteers on the sign in sheet - so other than the Race Team and a couple of other folks who have conflicts on Saturday - where would the rest of you like to work on the 22nd? We have needs at the Rest Stop, route monitors, Clean up crew, and Bike Rodeo -It would be nice if some of our Registration Volunteers didn't have to work both Registration and Rest Stops and Clean up...and don't forget the post ride Volunteer Thank You Party - sponsored in part by New Belgium Brewing.

Call me to volunteer - 202-3072.

Re: Volunteer Driven...

Who'da thunk we'd have 50+ show up! Thanks for talking me back to civilization on the cell phone!

Sounds like you found Locke Creek

Left on Pleasant Ridge takes you over Auburn Town Rd then to Locke Creek. Nice road but you're right, steep at the top.

Re: Sounds like you found Locke Creek

Locke Creek it was. Would probably be fun...on a mountain bike!

Re: Sounds like you found Locke Creek

I can't believe you survived the dog guantlet on Pleasant Ridge to reach Locke Creek.

Re: Sounds like you found Locke Creek

I was a little worred about that too, but I didn't see a single dog until I got back on the main route.

Re: Aug 15 - HOT 100 Preview Ride

A big thank you to those who marked the HOT route. Very nice ride on Saturday.
