Blinking Lights

hello, I have wrote on here before about my son lewis who is 6 and was diagnosed in may with AS.
Well we have been having a good couple of months with lewis, his school are doing an A1 job ,they have got extra staff in to help him during class and playtime (all off thier own backs i will say)he is having his statementing put through and a very niece man is coming in to school to help build his case .so things are good!!!!
but i really need some help with what i can claim and funds i can get for lewis now he has been (DN).He wets the bed almost everynight and always has, but having to buy new sheets, pillows and mattresses every couple of months gets a bit expensive and we could do with some help funding this.
so if anyone could let me know whats best i would be very greatfull.i would also like to say even though i don't post msg's that often i do read the forum every week it's like a friend to me thankyou to everyone!!

Hi Lucy
You can apply for Disabled Living Allowance (DLA) but I must confess the forms were like double dutch to me so I never actually got round to applying in the end so am not the best person to advise you on this.
However we did have the bed wetting problem night after night, year after year. We wrote off for a medical catalogue and bought a proper matress cover (it was soft and covered the entire matress) like the ones used in hospital. This helped a lot as the matress was protected so we only had to worry about washing the bedding. A quick wipe over and the matress was also fresh and clean again. And as it was the hospital type it didn't go hard after a while or make a crinkly noise like the old fashioned cot matress covers.
The other thing I did when my son was about 10 was take him to a registered chiropractor. He worked on the parts of the back that put pressure on the bladder and within a few months he stopped wetting the bed. He has never wet the bed since. I also noticed he slept better and was not quite so hyper after his sessions. He had about 10 sessions in total. I did have to pay for the tratment as it is not done on the NHS but the costs were no comparison to the costs of the bedding and the amount of washing that we used to go through!! So might be worth a try.
Take care

Re: Re: little help and advice needed please!!!

Hi Lucy,

I'm new to the forum, so hence my lateness in my reply to this subject, I have a Daughter who I am pretty sure has AS, last October she was diagnosed with ADD but I'm not so sure now I think it is more AS, very confused at this stage, but we are nutting it out, just a breif bit of background on our situation....however in regards to the bed wetting I have a 5 year old Son who (fingers crossed) at this stage is not symptomatic, so my only input is in regards to the bedwetting....not only do I have a very good mattress protector on, but I live in Australia but I'm pretty sure we have similar products, and Huggies the nappy people have a product called "dry nites" they are like pull ups only without all the minie mouses on them etc they make them quite plain so the Children don't feel like babies. They come in a range of sizes 4yrs-7yrs, then it goes to 7yrs -10 years, and then to my surprise 10 years- 15years. My son only wears them to bed as he is fine during the day, as I'm sure your Child is also We have tried on numwerous occasions to see how he goes without but I have to put him on the toilet asleep just before I go to bed and then I virtually have to set the alarm for like about 4am, to do it again otherwise he won't make (too hard basket) but I will keep trying obviously I don't want him in dry nites till he's 15 but at this stage it saves on a heck of a lot of washing and sanity.
