As I see it, the trouble is that the RNZN is no longer a "Blue Water" navy. Now there are two frigates and the tanker only that goes overseas regularly, with a total ships company of 375. Whereas, in the days of the Leanders with 3 out of 4 ships always operational, you had a total complement of approximately 750. People join the Navy to go overseas, not stick around doing EEZ patrols. I'm afraid that the RNZN is becoming basically a Patrol Boat navy. |
