Hi Jim,
You sent an email earlier today stating that the Navy was having recruitment problems.
The outfit is its own worst enemy. There are many ex-Canterbury people living here in Auckland, plus a number of the original crew who would have loved the chance to see her leave Devonport and the Waitemata for the last time. But there was absolutely nothing in either the local press, national press, or other media.
Neither was there anything in the Navy's free mag. I believe *****rs has a public relations department now (something they did not have in my day). That department could have done something. Afterall it is only an email or phone call to the media.
Many business organisations understand that the best recruitment tools they have are the staff who have worked for them before. This is never more true in the case of other arms of our military and police. *****rs seems so inward looking nowadays that it forgets it is the little things that count.
Many ex-matelows I talk to feel as though they have just been totally ignored by the Navy. Their families, friends and associates watch how they are treated and steer away from anything to do with the Navy. Thus there is a resultant recruitment problem. |
