I have a chi whose name is Bert, and I purchased him from a breeder when he was 8 weeks old. He is about 13 weeks old now and he is very very smart. He paper trained on wee wee pads in just two weeks. He loves to eat his dog food and dog biscuits, and he is very good around strangers and especially at the vet. He rarely barks, only twice since I bought him.
I have found that Bert is very good when I take him places or when people he doesn't know are in our house. But when I am here alone with him, he BITES. He bites my pants leg, my bare calf, and especially my fingers. He has about 20 chew toys in his bedroom and I can't seem to get him to stop biting me. I tried saying "NO BITE" in a firm voice and shrieking in a high pitch when he bit me (because that's what dogs do when other dogs bite them and the biting dog understands that it hurts and stops). However, nothing seems to work. He thinks all my verbal reprimands are a game and he gets more excited and bites more. I have finally just started smacking him (not hard at all) on the bottom with a roll of paper towels everytime he bites me. Now when he sees the roll of paper towels in my hand he bites less.
I'm just wondering if he will eventually stop biting once he stops teething, and has anyone else had an unusually defiant chihuahua with this problem? |
